Game 2 vs Powerline

What was the final anyways? Last time I looked, it was 11-10 then Joshua scored another run. I lost track of the end of the game because of our first real Dragon injury - Grant - hope that hamstring heals up quickly!!

What an opener gang! We did the same thing last year - an early win against Powerline - and if memory serves, nobody else was able to beat them in the first round. Congrats! Let's just hope we can follow up with another big surprise next week against those little Fockers.

Welcome aboard to all of our new players who made their first "in-game" appearance last night - Joshua, Grant, Malcolm, Deb - you have definitely improved our lot - and the old Dragons are very thrilled and recharged by this. And we still had fun to boot. We hope that you feel the same way!

Game 1 vs Tribe

Not very often that a game is called due to lockdown and that's what happened last night. The Tribe was unable to field a full team as several of their players were stuck in the north end where the streets were cordoned off until an incident was brought under control. I heard there were no injuries and the individual was in police custody by the end of the evening but too late to play ball by then. Not to worry. It rained before too long and it looks like the night will be a wash. I'll update this post when I get confirmation

Thanks to Tracey for coming out - it's great to have a spare on such short notice - sorry that we didn't get to play. We'll have you back another time.

And we're off!

Well team, I can't tell you how excited I am about the start of this season. There have been a lot of changes to our lineup this year and I think we'll surprise a few people. The shirts are ordered and although we won't have them for tomorrow, we should have them in time for our first Home game. Speaking of which, if you have anything that would pass for base spikes, please let me know - the ground is soft for now, but it won't last. I've finally gotten to posting the schedule - you'll find a link on the sidebar.

The field lineups are a bit different this year. Rather than having a field position chart, I'll only going to call out the Sits - I expect that we can figure out the rest - here's what I'm thinking for positions:

2nd Base Rozina Deb
Rover Sarah
Catcher Sue Leanne
1st Base Linda
Pitcher Joshua Dexter
Short StopJohn
3rd Base Sherman
Outfield Phil Malcolm
Outfield Adam
Outfield Grant

And hopefully, Sarah's cousin can make it to our first game. Leanne will be away, and I'm on the DL with a pulled muscle in my knee. Our new guys are about to learn about my least favorite rule of the league since it looks like we will be stick sharing sooner than later this year. Yuck! But anyways - We will still have lots of fun on Thursday and you never know who might show up to help us out.

I'll be at the park by 6. See ya's tomorrow!

Practice is a go

I've heard from Adam, Grant, Deb, Malcolm and Phil. I'll scoop Dexter up on my way. Sherman's in Geraldton so I doubt he'll make it. Kim S. will probably come out to get some fresh air. Looks like we have enough coming out to have a bit of a practice. I have to head in to the office for a bit so if you need me, hit my cell phone 994-3138 or binder@bell.blackberry.net. See you at 3 at Waverley Park

Spring Update

The League meeting was on Sunday night. Fees are $100 each. Diamonds are Lyons, Exhibition, Guelph Lake and Centennial Park which is swapped out for Exhibition enclosure later in the season. We don't have many games at Centennial this year, and we have only 4 late games. First game will be May 1 and the tournament is September 11-14.

Next practice is Sunday, April 13 @ 3PM, Waverley Park and we're hitting the diamond rain or shine! Plan on bringing some coin that day if you haven't yet done so. Thanks to those who have already paid. The roster is filling up quickly so reserve your spot now.

Planning Begins

Welcome to the new season. I can't wait for the snow to melt so we can get out to the park and play some ball.

I enjoyed the team and the season of '07 but have to admit that there were many times when I wondered if the co-ed orthodox league is no longer the right league for us. Our record has been dismal the last few seasons but I'm not ready to give up yet. Participation on this team requires knowledge of the game, the ability to play it well, a good team spirit, and a full time commitment.

Our skills need some tuning up so we start Sunday practices at Waverley as soon as the ground firms up. Practices are part of your commitment to the team and you are expected to attend as many as possible.

Games are played every Thursday night at 6:30 or 8:30pm. You are expected to be at as many games as possible. If your work schedule does not allow for this, or you are a world traveller, you might help us more on the spare list.

You can't play until you sign the roster, and all dues must be paid in full prior to signing. I won't know how much until I hear from the league but will take a deposit at any time. Last year was $100.

Some Dragons have indicated that they are taking a break and some new recruits will be needed to tighten up a few areas where we need some help. Find out more at practice but be on the lookout for talented prospects to bring along with you.

See you when the snow melts, bin

Bat checker

Don't forget to check your bat! Last year's list still works - if your bat isn't here, look for it on the ASA website. If it's listed there, please let me know.
